Most pressing on that list of things that have changed: I'm going to be spending one more semester in Grand Rapids this fall. I.e. I'm finishing my undergrad work at Calvin rather than transferring to McGill University in the fall. I was accepted by McGill but it just makes so much more sense to finish at Calvin. McGill, it turns out, automatically enrolls transfers into a three year program. I don't have three more years. Two more I could've dealt with but three? Hmm... No.
I'm currently in summer school to make up some lost ground, taking Spanish, tennis, and biology this summer so that things will be a little more managable in the fall.
Also: I'm hoping to spend next spring studying in York. A whole extra year in GR at this point makes me want to bang my head into a wall. If I get to spend next spring abroad this could possibly be managable. I will probably miss my graduation... But in the end I think it will be worth it. Of course I have to get accepted to the program and everything first but... Here's hoping.
Apart from these new changes, I'm working on a new novel that I am really excited about. I'm keeping it pretty hush-hush, really. I don't mind telling people that I'm working on it but I'm just unsure how it will turn out so I haven't told anyone what it's about yet. My friend Leah (Widget44) has promised to tear it apart for me once I'm through with it so I look forward to that day approaching soon! My time-table for the book is very short for me. I'm going to finish it this summer. Not even planning on it. This will happen. To write the end, I'm planning a road trip. But where? Oh where? Where will I be? Hmm... I've told some people already so you can probably find out if you're really interested. But whatever. Yeah. I'm really excited about this book. Bad karma to be so confident in my excitement, I'm sure. But I feel like I'm finally writing "what I know" and exploring my capabilities where they intersect with my interest and trying out a little confidence for size. Or maybe that's just the wine talking.
In any case, I really do have a short time-table for this. I'm hoping a rough draft will be done by July. After that, I don't know honestly. Let it sit for a while and then have some loved-ones tear it apart for me and kick it in the dust before picking it up and writing a second draft.
Finally, as an after thought, I do have in mind to endeavour some sort of photo project this summer. This is (hopefully dear God in heaven Lord Jesus Almighty) my last summer in GR. As such, I want to explore it and appreciate it as I am able to in whatever ways I am able to. As part of that, I would like to make it a point to mark this place, this city, this moment with some physical artistic expression, namely with in terms of photography since that's the only medium in which I have any glimpse of a claim at mediocrity.
This is my life currently. Learning so much right now, really, in a number of different regards. Some things never change, of course. But we move on, we grow a little at a time. One day at a time.
Woah. That is definitely the wine talking.
